Development of Eco-Friendly Products
Initiative for Developing Eco-Friendly ProductsSince establishing our product development policy in 1978, the basic development concept of the IDEC Group has been to achieve the optimal control based on the “saving.” With SAVE ALL set as our slogan in 1982, we have committed ourselves to introduce our customers to the “saving” concepts, which includes energy-saving, space-saving, maintenance-saving, and resource-saving. Based on the tendency of the reduction of the environmental burden and the protection of the global environment by the recent social status, we have announced the concept of developing eco-friendly products and have established the procedure in 2017. In 2019, we have reviewed the process of developing products and revised the process to be more eco-friendly. We evaluate the degree of environmental consideration of product development based on IDEC's own standards such as energy efficiency improvement, resource saving, space saving, and a longer product life. The products with high consideration of saving are certified as an "enhanced eco-friendly product". As one of the medium-term targets by FY2025, we have set a target to make eco-friendly products represent 60% or more of all new products launched since FY2020 on a cumulative basis. Not only designing eco-friendly product, we have also addressed to reduce CO2 emissions in the process of manufacturing, transporting, and packing products.
Environmental Label (Eco-mark)
We have created am original eco-mark based on our basic spirit of "SAVE ALL". The mark is stamped on the leaflet of products that are certified as "enhanced eco-friendly products" to appeal to our customers. *in compliance with ISO/JIS Q 14021 (self-declared environmental claims: typeII)
Evaluation Items for Eco-Friendly Products (excerpt) |
・Energy-saving (high efficiency) | Energy-saving design of products |
・Resource-saving (materials) | Reduce materials used |
・Resource-saving (package, packing materials) | Reduce packing materials, paperless, unlabeled |
・Space-saving, weight-saving | Reduce size and weight compared to existing products |
・Reduce man-hours | Consider for improving user's workability |
・Energy-saving of production facilities | Shorten production process |
・Adopt eco-friendly materials (parts) | Apply to component of parts, packing materials, and transporting materials |
・Ease of product disassembly | non-use of adhesive agent, reduce screws |
・longer operating life | Adopt longer operating parts, easy maintenance |
Examples of Eco-Friendly Products
φ22 Smart RFID Reader "KW2D" series | Surface Mount Terminal Block | Miniature Photoelectric Sensors
KW2D has a compact and smart design ideal for factory automation environments, and it can be mounted on φ22mm panel cut-out. Data can be recorded as electronic data by combining with a touch panel, which contributes to saving resources such as paperless. | Easily assemble the required number of terminal blocks without tools. No connecting rod required, which achieved the reduction of the number of parts, and eco-friendly product. |
Realize the reduction of current draw. Direct print on products and packing materials realizes paperless, contributing to saving resources.
Main evaluation points | ・Resource saving ・Space-saving ・Reduce man-hours | Main evaluation points | ・Resource-saving ・Weight-saving ・Reduce man-hours | Main evaluation points | ・Energy-saving ・Resource-saving ・Reduce man-hours |
Effects | ・Not only dedicated tags but also IT cards such as company identifications are available. ・Space-saving: total height of panel 9mm, depth 48.5mm (Click here for details) | Effects | ・Reduce the number of parts (non-use of screws) | Effects | ・Decrease current draw by 10% compared to conventional products |
LED lighting "LF3D" series | Switching Power Supplies "PS3V" series | Push-in connections φ22 Switches & Pilot Light
IDEC developed a LED lighting suitable for use in machine tools, realizing excellent robust construction and optical performance (reduces multiple shadows and reflection from light source). LF3D has a structure in consideration of replacing from conventional products as well as contributes to the reduction of environmental burdens. The equipment of glare mode enables to reduce glare, and decrease power consumption to 40%. | PS3V is a compact and reliable power supplies that allows flexible installation mounting in four directions. The compact design contributes to downsizing of boards and equipment. The push-in connection terminal is added to lineups of screw terminals, which contributes to the reduction of man-hour for wire works. | IDEC provides the lineup for push-in connection types with simple wiring for greater work efficiency compared to the conventional screw terminal in addition to reliability (stays firmly in place) and easiness. Angled connections and contact block depth reduced contribute to saving space inside panel and enabling downsizing of equipment.
Main evaluation points | ・Energy-saving ・Space-saving ・Reduce man-hours | Main evaluation points | ・Space-saving ・Reduce man-hours ・Long operating life | Main evaluation points | ・Space-saving ・Reduce man-hours
Effects | ・Power consumption 40% down compared to conventional products | Effects | ・Long life Five-year warranty (three-year warranty for conventional products) (Click here for details) | Effects | ・Reduce man-hours for wiring by 55% compared to conventional products (Click here for details) |
